Piglet might have complained to Pooh that Saturday was rather “a blustery day,” but the cold and wind did little to dampen the fun of youngsters gathered at Wiese Park for the serious business of gathering Easter Eggs.
The annual event, sponsored by the Perry Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Perry Parks and Recreation Department, Tyson Fresh Meats, Hy-Vee, Casey’s and Ben’s Five and Dime, drew the smallest crowd in recent memory, but the smiles and laughter were still easy to spot.
Spreading the sweet joys prior to the hunt were Perry Mayor John Andorf, Perry Parks and Recreation Department Director John Anderson, Assistant Director Becky Halling and Aquatics/Wellness Coordinator Kami Kirchner, Perry Optimists Linda Andorf and Jim Caufield and Accujet’s Bob Wilson.
The Easter Bunny was also on hand for photographs at 10 a.m., though the conditions were better suited for a jolly ol’ elf than a springtime hop-a-long. Hundreds of pastel eggs, some containing candy and others tickets that could be exchanged for prizes, were scattered by the volunteers in three age-themed sections.
As in the past, less than 60 seconds were required for the field to be picked clean, youngsters proudly showing their attending adults the hard-earned harvest.
