BRR Ride volunteers were up with the chickens Saturday, paving the way for the annual bike trek to Rippey and back.

Ladies of the St. Pat’s Regina Guild were busy baking Rita Smithson’s famous St. Pat’s Cinnamon Rolls, with Perry Lions Club members cracking eggs in preparation for the 7:30 a.m. breakfast at the Hotel Pattee.

At the hotel, the Bloody Mary bar was stocked with several offerings, including mimosas and the trademark BRR Brew, which is expected to sell out before the ride starts at 10 a.m.

Tom Maxwell, the hotels new owner, will be on hand for the ride, welcoming riders and making new friends.

ThePerryNews.com caught up with Emily Leslie, president of the Perry Chamber of Commerce, as she dashed from place to place, and she noted some of the day’s planned activities.

“We have the highest number of registered riders in the last couple of years,” Leslie said. The annual bike ride is the Chamber’s biggest annual fundraiser.

“We’ve had lots of new volunteers this year — XiPi, Board Members, Chamber Ambassadors and others — so I’m very excited,” she said, noting the Chamber’s newest member, the Crooked Rail, will host a live band at 1010 Second. St.

“The new floral shop will be open downtown,” Leslie added. “I’m not sure to what capacity, but that’s where she’s having everyone pick up flowers for the Daddy-Daughter Dance.”

The dance will be held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday in the Multi-Purpose Room at the Perry Elementary School and is sponsored by the Perry Junior Class Prom Committee.

“That’s all I can think of off the top of my head,” Leslie said, “so downtown will be happening today for sure.” And with that she dashed off to the next big thing.
