Perry's Will Whiton, a three-time all-state defensive back, will play in the Shrine Bowl at the UNI-Dome Saturday.

CEDAR FALLS — Three time all-state defensive back Will Whiton will don the pads one final time before heading to South Dakota State University to continue his football career when he appears in the 43rd Iowa Shrine Bowl Saturday.

The All-Star Classic will kick off at 4 p.m. in the UNI-Dome. Players have been in Cedar Falls since Monday and have been practicing twice each day. Pre-game activities Saturday include a 9:30 a.m. parade, with players signing autographs at 10:30 a.m

Whiton will play cornerback and return punts for the South team, which is under the direction of Davenport Assumption head coach Wade King.

Saturday’s forecast calls for the possibility of rain, and with that in mind — and the chance that head indexes will exceed 100 degrees — playing in the air-conditioned UNI-Dome is unlikely to upset too many players.

“It will be great to finally play in a large atmosphere with a lot of fans,” Whiton said. “Playing with the best of the best is going to be great, too.”

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate, with children 6 and under admitted free.
