Perry was eliminated by Grinnell in postseason play Friday, ending a winless season, but head coach Michael Craig found reasons to believe in a brighter future.

Visiting Carlisle pounded out 14 hits and scored eight unearned runs in defeating Perry, 20-0, in four innings of Raccoon River Conference baseball Monday.

The first game of new Bluejay head coach Michael Craig’s tenure saw the powerful Wildcats score three runs in the first inning and nine more in the second. A two-run third frame was followed by six additional runs in the fourth to end the game early.

Juan Hernandez doubled for the lone Perry hit, with Gavin Hegstrom drawing a walk and stealing a base.

Carter Iben started for the hosts and threw 2-2/3 innings, with Hegstrom tossing one frame of relief while Kaleb Lyddon recorded a strikeout.

Iben was touched for 14 runs (nine earned) on nine hits and six walks while striking out four, with Hegstrom yielding six runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks.

Ryan Peterson fanned three in gathering the win for the guests.

Archer Ogbourne had a single, double and home run from his lead-off spot for Carlisle. He drove in three runs and scored four times, with Spencer Crees adding a home run with four RBIs.
