Woodward-Granger boys golfers swing to win in quadrangular

WOODWARD — Four strong rounds led host Woodward-Granger to victory in an 18-hole quadrangular Tuesday at the Woodward Golf Club.

W-G finished with a score of 356, six shots clear of runner-up Saydel (362). Earlham was third on 391 strokes, with Colfax-Mingo fourth at 406.

Nick Brummond guided the hosts with a 41-44–85, with Joe Rhodes turning in a 43-45–88. A 41-50–91 from Austin Ober and a 50-42–92 from Brady Aunspach helped deliver the victory for coach David Combs’ squad.

Brummond’s round was the third-best in the 29-player field, wit Rhosed, Ober and Aunspach holding down spots 6-7-8

W-G also won the junior varsity portion of the meet, topping Saydel 439-482. Scoring for the Hawks were Hunter Pierce (52-48–100), Max Helbling (49-54–103), Nick Buch (57-59–116) and Jimmy Guzzi (60-60–120).

Meet medalist Zach McKee led Saydel with a 40-38–78, Joe Boehler had a 48-40–88 and Colton Myers a 47-46–93, with Eagles also counting a 54-49–103 from Trent Guy. Drew Swank (53-58–111), Damien Dennis (57-54–111), Logan Guy (57-60–117) and Roland Damien (68-75–143) provided the four JV scores for Saydel.

Earlham’s low score of 39-42–81 came from Ben Clement, with Trent Williamson shooting 50-49–99. Jim Knight (50-54–104) and Jerod Leporte (55-52–107) also scored, with the Cardinals not using rounds of 59-55–114 from Quinn Weber, of 64-53–117 from Cylias Russell or of 75-70–145 from John Tibben.

Ahren Teed’s 44-43–87 paced Colfax-Mingo. Brady Berkey (57-46–103), Wyatt Smith (53-54–107) and Skyler Aikan (52-57–109) also scored for the Tigerhawks, who discarded rounds of 57-54–111 from Nic Duffy and of 63-57–120 from Jake Dunsbergen.

The W-G boys will host ADM, Ballard, Madrid and Perry at 1 p.m. Thursday when the Hawks return to action. The Hawk girls will travel to DC-G Thursday for a 4 p.m. triangular that will also include ADM.
