Woodward-Granger harriers run at Colfax-Mingo

COLFAX, IA — Thursday’s cross country schedule for Woodward-Granger included a visit to the Colfax-Mingo invitational, with the full Hawk program in action.

W-G freshman Eva Fleshner has exploded onto the scene and is ranked fourth among Class 1A girls harriers. She won Thursday in 18 minutes, 43.47 seconds to help power the Hawks to second place in a six-team race with 54 points. Grandview Christian won with 26 points.

Freshman Jaidyn Achenbach was eighth in 23:12.82, with junior Libby Grell 10th in 23:39.38. Also scoring was freshman Chloe Creger (15th, 24:08.9) and junior Danika Leuenberger (20th, 24:48.72). Freshmen Talia Wright and Adysen Churchill ran as well, finishing 23-24 in 26:05.83 and 26:23.3, respectively.

North Mahaska won the boys event with 35 points, with Colfax-Mingo second at 87 while W-G was sixth of nine teams at 120.

Ethan Haus of Colfax-Mingo was the winner, crossing in 16:57.36.

Carsten Wright (10th, 18:39.13) and Dillon Limoges (12th, 18:42.43) paced W-G. Healey Hill (27th, 19:34.43), Cael Leighton (33rd, 19:54.94) and Alex Younts (38th, 20:37.88) rounded out the five scorers, with Sterling Parkinson (42nd, 21:01.73) and Aiden Topalovich (45th, 21:18.77) also in action.

A coed middle school race was also held, with grades 7-8 running a two-mile course.

Clarke (27) and W-G (32) were the only boys schools with the five runners necessary to generate a team score.

Cooper Finestead was first in 12:04.75 and Heston Parkinson sixth in 15;23.07. Braden Love (7th, 16:21.87), Michael Kunkel (8th, 17:09.98) and Alex Hoyt (10th, 21:09.39) scored as well, with Noah Faust (11th, 23:54.26) also making the rounds.

Three Hawks girls were in action. Lucy Fleshner was fifth, in 13:12.72, Callie Fenceroy was sixth in 14:04.47, and Sunshine Casey was eighth in 14:23.

W-G will be in competition just once next week with a Monday visit to the Ballard Invtiational.
