Woodward-Granger matmen battle Bondurant-Farrar, host Ballard

HUXLEY — Woodward-Granger wrestled Bondurant-Farrar to a 36-all tie and dropped a 42-27 dual with host Ballard Thursday.

The Hawks and Bluejays battled to an even score in their battle, but the win went to W-G on criteria, as the Hawks had one more win than the Jays. W-G had three wins by pinfall, the first (in order of the match) which came at 152 when Race Brant nailed Keegan Howell in 3 minutes, 51 seconds at 152 pounds. Tanner Vermaas stepped up to 195 and pinned Dawson Lester in 1:11, with Cole Carman sticking Tanner Edwards in 1:40 at 132.

Other W-G wins came from Josh Saak’s 7-5 decision against Brandon Behle at 138 and from Aaron Sperling’s 14-7 decision against Jakob Oleson at 170. The Hawks forfeited at 285, received forfeits at 113 and 120 (Ty Turner and Colt Palmer taking the wins) with both teams voiding 182.

Brant pinned Ballard’s Kenton Brekke in 5 minutes, with Vermaas wrestling back at 182 and pinning Will May in 2:52. Turner pinned Tim Lang in 1:02, with Saak scoring an 8-5 decision against Josh Berg. The other W-G points came from a forfeit to Palmer at 120; both teams left 195 open.
