WOODWARD — Second-year head coach Owen Hunter has announced his immediate resignation as head softball coach for Woodward-Granger, according to W-G Athletic Director Matt Eichhorn.

Eichhorn said Hunter spoke with him Sunday and informed him of his decision.

The team will be under the guidance of interim head coach Jessica Wyant for the remainder of the season. Wyant was previously the assistant coach.

Hunter took over for Noah Bean after the 2017 season. The Hawks were 4-30 overall last year and just 2-14 in WCAC play with a team returning only three experienced players.

Still one of the youngest teams in this part of the state, the Hawks have struggled to an 0-10 start this season after dropping three games Saturday at the Ballard Classic.

W-G is scheduled to host Ogden tonight and visit Madrid Tuesday. They will entertain Pleasantville for a WCAC varsity doubleheader Thursday and then host their annual two-day W-G Classic Friday and Saturday.
