VAN METER — The Round of 16 playoffs continued Friday, with Woodward-Granger falling to perennial power Van Meter, 42-0, in their Class 1A meeting.

The victory was the 41st consecutive home win for Van Meter (10-0), who extended their streak of 10-win seasons to seven straight. W-G bowed out at 6-4 in the first year under head coach Cory Crnkovich.

W-G trailed, 14-0, after one quarter of play and entered the locker room facing a 35-0 deficit.

The win means Van Meter will host AC/GC (9-1) Nov. 5 after the Chargers topped South Central Calhoun (8-2), 31-13, Friday. The Bulldogs defeated their District 7 rivals, 41-7, Oct. 15 in the final week of the season for small schools.

Yards lost to quarterback sacks are deducted from rushing totals in high school and college, and, as a result, W-G was held to a negative 10 yards on 12 carries by Van Meter. The Bulldogs have allowed only 422 total rushing yards in 10 contests this season.

Dustin Harney (6-4), Brody Nardini (2-3) and Carter Moran (4 for -17) all had runs for the Hawks.

Moran finished 17-of-31 passing for 134 yards, with Nardini completing a 22-yard halfback pass to Dane Polich, who caught four total passes for 62 yards.

Nardini led the receivers with eight snags for 69 yards, with Harney (5-17) and Dylan McCaulley (1-8) also pulling in passes.

Bulldog quarterback Jack Pettitt was as good as believed, hitting 5-of-7 throws for 181 yards and three touchdowns while adding 111 yards and two TDs on eight carries.

Ganon Archer (2-94, 2 TDs) and Carter Durflinger (2-87, 1 TD) caught passes for the hosts, with Dalton Van Pelt (15-123, 1 TD) helping the home squad rush for 280 yards.

Van Meter kicker Katie Lindsay continued her outstanding campaign as the sophomore converted all of her six PAT kicks. She is now 63-of-66 (95 percent) for the season.

Defensive statistics for the two teams was not available.

Friday’s game was the final prep football action for Hawk seniors Corbyn Atwell, Don David, Alex Evans, Hunter Keubler, Jack Meusburger, Eddie Phillips, Dylan Rodgers and Harney.
