OGDEN, Iowa — A school record of nine Panorama wrestlers will be in competition Saturday at the Class 1A District 5 tourney in Pleasantville.

The Panthers advanced after either winning their weight class or finishing as the runner-up during Sectional 10 action in Ogden.

Eight Panthers are assured of a spot with a ninth, heavyweight Issac Monroy-Nunez, almost certainly moving up from third to second due to an injury ahead of him, although that was not official as of press time.

Sectional champs face section 9 runner-ups and vice versa. The Section 9 tourney was held at Truro, with host Interstate-35, Earlham, Martensdale-St. Marys, Mt. Ayr, Nodaway Valley, SE Warren/Melcher-Dallas, Wayne and district host Pleasantville involved.

Ogden and Panorama were 1-2 in team points with 230 and 206, respectively, with Van Meter third at 130. Lynnville-Sully was fourth at 126, with Colfax-Mingo (120), Baxter (114) and Collins-Maxwell (76) completing the field.

Two seniors, a sophomore and a freshman placed first for Panorama in Ogden, with a senior, two sophomores and two freshmen finishing second.

Cooper Andersen (33-2, Sr.) was first at 220 pounds after two byes and a pin, in just 21 seconds, of Colfax-Mingo’s Shane Aikin (36-6).

James Hein (21-7, Sr.) won at 195 with a pin of Aiden Kathman (32-13, OGD) in 2:28 and a 44-second pin of Miles Mintle (25-11, L-S).

Sophomore Cayden Van Meer (33-12) won 138 with a 6-1 decision over Clayton Leslie (11-12, Co-Mingo) and a pin, in 1:18, of Wyatt Sprecher (22-12, OGD) while freshman Lane Christe (23-14) emerged as the 106-pound champ. Christe pinned Braedon Krusemark (13-24, VM) in 3:24 and Caleb Wisecup (23-10, OGD) in 3:54.

Landon Goodenberger (13-11, Sr.) was second at 160 with a 3-1 mark that included three pins, with sophomore Tage Monahan (11-8) 2-1 with a pin and a win by prior victory to place second at 113.

Freshman Landon Kirtley (26-20) was second at 120 with a 3-1 mark that found wins come by pin, by 13-5 major decision and by 6-4 decision, with fellow frosh Will Knapp (24-16) second at 126 with a pin, a decision and a prior victory while finishing 3-1 overall.

Monroy-Nunez (13-20, So.) was 1-2 with a pin and a loss by prior defeat at 285, but an injury may see him boosted to second, with the Panorama coaching staff awaiting word on Monroy-Nunez’s status.

Freshman Emmett King (6-19) was 1-2 at 152 to place fourth, with sophomore Maddox Nunn (8-27) 2-1 and fifth at 132 while Keyton VanGundy (12-22) was 0-2 and sixth at 170.

Panorama did not compete at either 145 pounds or 182.
