Midnight fire at Iowa Spring in Adel brings prompt response

ADEL, Iowa — A fire was reported shortly after midnight Thursday at the Iowa Spring Manufacturing Inc. factory at 2112 Greene St.

No injuries were reported, and the facility was evacuated in good order.

The cause of the fire in under investigation. Preliminary indications suggested the blaze might have started in a dust collector located on the exterior of the plant, and smoke was forced from there into the building.

The Adel Volunteer Fire Department responded, with mutual aid provided by the Dallas Center Volunteer Fire Department.

The Adel Police Department and Dallas County EMS also responded.

The Iowa Spring Manufacturing Inc. factory makes round wire, coiled steel springs for agricultural, garage door, material handling and railcar purposes. Based at 2112 Greene St. in Adel, the company employs about 90 workers and has annual revenues of about $20 million.
