An anonymous tip was received by ThePerryNews.com about 12:30 p.m. Monday to the effect that the Tyson Fresh Meats plant in Perry will close June 28.

“Corporate just walked in and told everybody that they’re losing their jobs, and they’re closing the facility,” the source said.

About 1,200 workers would be affected by such a closure.

The Perry plant is small, the source said, but it has large contract with the Japanese market and seemed to be making money. Investments worth more than $50 million have been made to the Perry facility in recent years.

ThePerryNews.com will update this story as information becomes available.

  1. “They told everybody . . . .” So where’s the second source for this anonymous “tip”? If everybody was told, then how hard would it be for a intrepid reporter to get someone, on the record, to share what they were told in this company-wide meeting?

    • The rumor was leaked prior to the official announcement. The editor plainly stated it was a rumor when he was first made aware. It was confirmed after the first press release. Doubtless, The Perry News had a source who was considered reliable even though the initial statement couldn’t be substantiated.
