Angela Mortoza, new chief executive officer of the Dallas County Hospital, met Perry-area residents Thursday at an open house at the hospital.

Perry native Angela Mortoza has been named the new chief executive officer of the Dallas County Hospital, a hospital spokesperson announced Monday.

Mortoza, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Mercy College in Des Moines and a Master of Science degree in healthcare administration from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill., replaces former DCH CEO Matt Wille.

Mortoza has a 20-year background in nursing management at Mercy’s Children’s Emergency Center and Mercy Medical Surgical Unit. She spent the last four years in Greenfield as the Adair County Health System CEO.

Mary Laborde, chairperson of the Dallas County Hospital Board of Trustees, was pleased at the selection of Mortoza.

“It is exciting to have Angela join our team with her excellent experience and success with a critical access hospital and eagerness to work in the Perry community,” Laborde said. “Angela has demonstrated experience in increasing patient satisfaction, employee satisfaction and quality scores as well as increasing revenues and adding services.”

Donna Vandehaar, DCH interim CEO and chief clinical officer, said Mortoza’s local connections made her the natural choice for the CEO spot at the DCH.

“As a native of Perry, Angela is set to return to her roots,” Vanderhaar said. “The strong leadership she has shown in her previous roles, as well as her experience and knowledge, makes her the perfect fit for Dallas County Hospital. We are all excited to welcome her and see where she will lead us next.”

Vandehaar will continue as interim CEO until serving until Mortoza assumes her new role March 1, 2016.

Mortoza said she is “very excited to join the Dallas County Hospital team and look forward to working with the staff, physicians and community to continue to grow the services offered to meet the healthcare needs of the community.”
