Willis Avenue was closed Monday morning after a gas main was ruptured at the construction site at W. Third Street and Willis Avenue.

A gas main was struck about 10:45 a.m. Monday by construction workers at the Willis Avenue Apartments at 913 Willis Ave., leading to the temporary closure of Willis Avenue between First Avenue and W. Fourth Street in Perry.

There were no injuries in the accident.

The construction crew at the work site reportedly ruptured the gas line near Willis Avenue and W. Third Street while operating an excavator at the 38-unit apartment complex.

The Perry Police Department, Perry Volunteer Fire Department and Perry Public Works Department responded to the incident, stopping through traffic and setting up barricades around the vicinity.

MidAmerican Energy was notified of the incident, and repair crews are mobilizing at this hour.

Construction Management Associates Inc. (CMA) is the general contractor on the $6.3 million project. Jim Koback is the CMA safety director and director of construction, and Rick Norsen is CMA project superintendent.
