A distraught man who was briefly held at gunpoint in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery Friday night about 10 p.m. remains in a standoff with law enforcement officers at this hour, but he is described as “contained.”
A caller reported about 9 p.m. that a suicidal man was at the cemetery. Officers of the Van Meter Police Department and Dallas County Sheriff’s office responded and found the man’s vehicle parked inside the cemetery.
A search of the nearby woods soon discovered the unhappy man. It is unknown whether he is armed.
Law enforcement officers continue to reason with the man at this hour. “It’s just a matter now of what this gentleman decides to do,” said one law enforcement officer.
