Marjean Gries, a popular figure on the Perry social scene, a member of the Perry Community School District Board of Directors and a longtime teacher in the Perry school system, passed away Wednesday after a brief illness.
A statement from her family was issued about 6 p.m.:
“At 3:05pm, Marjean Gayle Roberts Gries ended her battle at Methodist Hospital that she had been fighting for the last 2 weeks. As mom would have wished her family and friends were at her side. Mom touched so many lives, and when she laughed her famous giggle, others around had no choice but to join in the fun! We will be sorting out arrangements tomorrow and post all information at that time. Thank you so much for all of the prayers, well wishes, support and love.”
Wow! You’ll be missed Mrs. Gries! You were one of my favorite teachers in elementary school. 🙁 Rest in Peace!
I loved her. What a personality!
I am shocked by the passing of Marjean. She always had a smile and a laugh you couldn’t forget. I never knew what she was going to say or do next. I am so glad I had a chance to know her. She has left me with some great stories.
So very sorry to hear this. My prayers go out to her family and friends.
Marjean was in my first eighth-grade class in my first year of teaching. What a girl! Miss you, love.
I remember when I was a cheerleader at Perry High School and Mrs. Gries (she let us call her Marjean) was a new teacher, and she was our Cheerleading Coach. She was always so positive and upbeat, and she always helped us to remain upbeat as well. I remember we would sit down to make signs, and Marjean would sit right down with us and make signs. I just loved her, and I’m shocked to hear that she is gone and so suddenly! She will be greatly missed by everyone who ever knew her! God bless her family and God speed, Marjean.
She was the best P.E teacher. I wish I had attended her funeral.
