A field fire (circled in red) got briefly out of hand Thursday in the 12900 block of Quinlan Avenue to the northeast of the intersection with County Road R30 (130th Street).

A controlled burn in the 12800 block of Quinlan Avenue got out of control near noon Thursday, but the blaze was quickly brought back under control by the Woodward Volunteer Fire Department, with mutual aid from the Perry Volunteer Fire Department.

The fire spread from the northern fence line of former railroad right-of-way land owned by Larry and Terri Godwin at 25532 130th St. onto property owned by Jennifer Clausen of rural Woodward. The properties lie between Woodward and Bouton along the proposed connector trail linking to High Trestle Trail and the Raccoon River Valley Trail.

Woodward Fire Captain Karl Harris and a crew of two called for mutual aid from the Perry Volunteer Fire Department, which dispatched a rescue truck and four firefighters.
