Perry wrestlers turned back twice at triangular

Fourth-ranked Winterset and a solid Creston/Orient-Macksburg team each claimed wins over host Perry in a wrestling triangular Thursday.

C/O-M was a 40-30 winner over Perry, with the highly-regarded Huskies points a 48-25 victory. C/O-M pulled an upset with a 36-32 win over Winterset in the opening dual.

Ninth-ranked 113-pounder Cole Nelson was 2-0 for Perry with pins in 1 minute, 4 seconds and 1:34, with Jacob Nelson 2-0 at 145 pounds with a 3-1 decision and a pin.

Perry welcomed 106-pounder Riece Graham back to the lineup, with Graham promptly recording a pin, in 1:46, and a win by major decision (19-6) to also finish 2-0.

Anthony Chavez was 1-1 with a 12-8 decision over Winterset at 120, with Erick Funez 1-1 with a win by fall, in 5:29, against C/O-M.

Ever Tobar pinned his C/O-M foe in 1:50 at 152 to finish 1-1, with Wilber Ramirez (160) and Cole Snyder (182) also 1-1 for the Bluejays. Ramirez claimed a decision against C/O-M with Snyder pinning his Winterset opponent in 1:52.

Tanner Burgin (126) and Carlos Gonzalez and Alan Gomez (both 285) all unable to win in their sole match of the evening.

Bryan Funez (132), Amos Barrios-Munoz (170) and Zach Darr (220) were all unable to collect a win in either of their matches. Perry left 195 open against both opponents and did not contest 126 against Winterset.

Perry returns to action Thursday when they host Carlisle and Coon Rapids-Bayard for the third annual Wrestle For A Cause event. They will then visit the Williamsburg Invitational Jan. 25.
