A rental truck struck the U.S.Postal Service office in Dallas Center at 506 14th St. about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
There were no injuries in the one-vehicle incident.
The 24-foot Ryder truck was turning eastward off of 14th Street and into the Post Office parking lot when it struck the southwest corner of the building, tearing a deep gash in the side of the truck.
The driver of the truck said a car pulled out in front of her vehicle, causing her to turn too sharply and strike the building.
A man who said he witnessed the incident from across the street said a car was parked in the parking lot south of Post Office, but it was not responsible for the collision. The man said he yelled at the truck driver, trying to get her attention, but to no avail.
The witness said he has driven trucks for years, and turning a corner too tight is not uncommon and is something truck drivers need to be aware of.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s office responded.
