Serious injuries in multi-vehicle accident on Iowa Highway 44

One person was trapped in a burning vehicle and others were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle accident just west of the Raccoon River on Iowa Highway 44 Sunday evening.

The collision occurred about 7:30 p.m. near the 21600 block of 240th Street between Laredo Trail and Sportsman’s Club Road. At least three vehicles were involved.

The cause of the mishap is under investigation at this hour by the Iowa State Patrol.

It appeared all the vehicles involved came to rest in the south ditch of Iowa Highway 44. Two air ambulances responded to transport the injured, and at least two injury victims were transported to Des Moines hospitals by the Dallas County EMS.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s office, Adel Volunteer Fire Department and Dallas Center Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
