WOODWARD — Visiting Woodward-Granger defeated Van Meter, 3-1, Monday.
Doing so moved W-G (22-10) into a Class 2A Region 4 Semifinal against sixth-ranked Grundy Center (30-8) Thursday. The IGHSAU announced this afternoon that the game will be played in Marshalltown, with a start time of 7:30 p.m.
Thursday’s winner will face either No. 11 Underwood (29-5) or AC/GC (28-7) in the Nov. 5 Regional Final. That site is yet to be determined.
W-G was victorious behind scores of 23-25, 25-23, 25-18 and 25-10. Individual statistics have now been made available, and show the Hawks served well, finishing a combined 85-of-93 behind the line with 11 aces.
Emma Drake was 21-of-21 with five aces, with Elly Polich 12-14-2 and Katelyn Scharlau 14-16-1. Faith Keuhl served 6-6-1, Darby Nixon 5-8-2, Katelyn Bandstra 18-of-19 and Natalie Weaver 9-of-9.
Nixon made 20 digs and Drake 17, with Bandstra providing 16 digs, Weaver 15, Polich 13, Scharlau four and Keuhl one. Brayten Ashman and Weaver each had two blocks, with Scharlau adding one.
Weaver led the team with 15 kills, with Polich making nine, Scharlau and Drake five each and Ashman one.
Drake’s 21 assists led the Hawks. Polich contributed nine assists, with Ashman, Nixon and Scharlau providing one apiece.
